DIRECTV iPhone Application Now Available

DIRECTV's iPhone application [App Store, Free] is now available in the App Store. The application allows DIRECTV subscribers to program their DVRs while on the go via Wi-Fi, 3G or EDGE.

- Search for any television show up to 14 days in advance
- Browse programs by channel or date & time
- Get program information instantly, including description, length and rating
- Record a single episode or an entire series
- Program Pay Per View movies to be recorded and ready to watch anytime
- Record to any DIRECTV DVR in your home
DIRECTV also notes that one of the following DVR models is required for remote recording functionality: DIRECTV PLUS DVR (models R15, R16, R22), DIRECTV PLUS HD DVR (models HR20, HR21, HR23) or TiVo Series 2 receivers with 6.4a software.

MacBook Mini Photos Generate Speculation

A series of images from a Russian magazine which claims to depict a "MacBook Mini" have been circulating on the internet. The specs on the described machine as said to include the following:


- 10.4" WXGA display.
- 1280 x 768 pixel with LED backlighting.
- NVIDIA MCP79
- Intel Atom Z740 1.83GHz with 1MB L2 cache.
- 2GB DDR3-800.
- NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
- 64GB Solid State Drive.
- Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n
- 1 x USB 2.0
- 1 x Mini Display Port
- Battery Li-Ion 5100mA

We don't know what to make of the images (scan #1, scan #2), and have our doubts about the legitimacy of the images. Still, with rumors have been circulating that Apple will be entering the netbook market, it makes for interesting speculation. The machine would reportedly retail for approximately $899 in 2009.

Apple Now Selling Contract-Free iPhone in Retail Stores?

AppleInsider is reporting that Apple retail stores are now offering the iPhone 3G with no contract commitment required. The 8 GB model is priced at $599 and the 16 GB model is priced at $699. The move comes just as AT&T deploys a similar offer, which was leaked last week and quickly confirmed by AT&T.

Apple's offer comes with fewer restrictions than AT&T's, as Apple retail stores are apparently not limiting sales to one per customer and are not requiring that purchasers be current AT&T customers.

Nuker 2.0

Well I was watching my videos on YouTube and I saw this video. Its from the same guy who is making the dashboard for the iPhone and who made Stack. This one is called Nuker 2.0. Enter the target’s IP address into Nuker and hit the nuke icon, and the target will be tested. If the target is vulnerable, as seen in the video, it will crash and force a reboot after 60 seconds. The reboot can be canceled from the command prompt. I cant wait until its released.

The Cydia Store + Screenshots!

The Cydia Store is now available for updating. Surprisingly there isn’t really many changes. I expected lots of updates but so far ive only found a few. The first application we find for sell is an app called Cyntact, which shows profile pictures in contact lists, at the small price of $1. Saurik states that the applications is DRM free, so yes there aren’t any restrictions to cracking it. As for other apps that will be up to them if they include DRM on their apps. A lot of people have been complaining that the whole point of jailbreaking is to for free applications in Cydia. But i think the Cydia Store can be a great thing. If you were a developer that spent months developing an application and Apple denies it from the App Store now you have an alternative. So great job Saurik, hope to see future updates! When you tap into Cyntact you will find description page of the app and instead of the Install button you find a purchase button. To pay for the application you go through your Google or Facebook account, but of course paypal is coming soon. I will be interested in how developers will be able to start charging for their apps, like such as if they will need to go through a Community source or not. Paid Version of AIM for iPhone Now Available for $2.99

Last week, we reported on an update to AOL's AIM for iPhone, which brings several new features to the instant messaging application. At press time, only an ad-supported, free version App Store was available, although an ad-free, paid version was promised to be working its way through Apple's App Store approval process.

AOL has informed us that the paid version App Store is now available with a price tag of $2.99. Other than the removal of ads and a purple icon (versus a red icon for the free version), the paid version offers the same features present in the free version.

Beta SpinBoard: Rotating Springboard Icons

Here is the small extension of MobileSubstrate called SpinBoard that allows you to rotate springboard icons using histories. I want to emphasize that it is a beta version you can not find elsewhere, and that at least in my case, it does not work well on iPod Touch. Instructions and video demo inside!

Requirements:
A Jailbroken device
Ability to communicate in SSH
Respring application available in Cydia

Guide:
1. Download the file http://www.sendspace.com/file/gs986d
2. Extract the archive on your desktop and copy the file SpinBoard.dylib in the following location:
“/ Library / MobileSubstrate / DynamicLibraries /”
3. to start the daemon simply run a respring with an application
4. Turn the iPhone back and enjoy the effect.

iPhone UK Sales Reach 1 Million Mar

As part of an earnings release covering the fourth quarter of 2008, Telefónica Europe announced that their O2 subsidiary in the UK has now sold over one million iPhones since the launch of the original iPhone in November 2007.

O2 pointed to the iPhone as one of the key components driving its performance, which was significantly better than the overall UK wireless market in all main financial and operating metrics. In particular, O2 highlighted the growth of its prepay segment, driven in part by the addition of prepaid iPhone offerings late in the quarter.
